Josh Naylor is heading back to the Seattle Mariners on a 5-yr/$92.5M deal with an AAV of $18.5M
The Seattle Mariners actually get the credit for getting the party started on the 2025 offseason, as they went out and acquired their top priority heading into it by bringing back last years trade deadline acquisition 28-year old Josh Naylor.
The Mariners made it very clear from the start that they were going to try and bring everyone back (on the offensive side of things anyway) first and foremost such as Naylor, Eugenio Suarez, Jorge Polanco, then go about adding some additional pieces from there. So them going out and bringing back Naylor right out of the chute, and before he even had a chance to think about an offer from anyone else is a great start.
When he came over to the Mariners from the Arizona Diamondbacks at last years trade deadline, Naylor instantly made a huge impact in their lineup that he even continued right into the postseason. In 54 games played with the Mariners, Naylor accumulated a 2.2 WAR, slashed a .299/.341/.490, had 58 hits in 194 at-bats, 10 of them being doubles, 9 homeruns, drove in 33 RBI's, and came around to score 32 times himself, oh yes he also had 19 stolen bases to give him 30 total on the season (and no that is not a typo) on route to a 20/20 season.
So needless to say, unlike some players across the league it's safe to say that Josh Naylor likes hitting/playing in Seattle. So much that he decided to make it his home for the next 5 seasons. With Naylor's fiery passion and desire to help his team try to win every game he plays in, I think this was a great deal for the Mariners for a player like Josh and the caliber of play he brings day in and day out. He will be a staple in the heart of their lineup for these years to come.
